Endermology is a procedure developed in the 1980s in France by Louis-Paul Guitay. Originally, endermology was aimed at treating burns and scars, but the long-term use of this procedure has shown its effectiveness in the treatment of cellulite. About 90% of women over 20 years have cellulite, so it’s no wonder that the popularity of endermology in aesthetic medicine is growing rapidly. Endermology is employed by cosmetologists, massage therapists, physiotherapists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons. Cellulite, i.e. orange peel effect influences various parts of the body, mainly the buttocks, hips and thighs. The skin has an uneven surface, with characteristic dimples. It is believed that the cause of cellulite is the accumulation of fat cells, which leads to the retention of water and toxins.

The Operating Principle

Endermology is a procedure aimed at reducing cellulite with mechanical action, using massage and tissue manipulation. Massaging the places affected by cellulite allows to break up the accumulation of adipose tissue, water and toxins and remove them through the lymphatic system. Endermology is a non-invasive procedure and is the first method of cellulite treatment accepted by the US Food and Drug Administration. This treatment also improves blood circulation, reduces muscle pain, improves the skin tone and glow.

The Procedure

Before starting the procedure, the patient should consult a specialist to discuss any questions and the chosen treatment method. Usually, a series of 6 to 10 treatments are recommended for the effects to be clearly visible. The results of such a number of  treatments last for several months, and a 30 to 45-minute procedure performed once a month allows you to maintain the form. Each patient has slightly different needs and expectations, therefore, the number of treatments will be discussed during the consultation. During the endermologic procedure, the patient is wearing a special costume while the therapist shifts the massaging device over the patient’s body. The massage is performed with a massaging head, which consists of two movable rolls and a suction chamber. Under pressure, the skin fold is drawn between the rollers. Each treatment takes about 35-45 minutes, and most patients decide to have 2 treatments per week. The treatment is not painful and allows the patient to relax.

Diet, exercise and the reduction of cellulite

A healthy diet and a large amount of physical activity are usually not enough to eliminate cellulite, but poor nutrition can worsen its appearance. Therefore, to fight cellulite, it is best to combine a proper diet, physical effort and endermologic treatments.
